Our Spokesdog
Stone-aged people tamed dogs to help them track game. About eight thousand years ago, ancient Egyptians raised
Saluki hunting dogs. Saluki is an arabic word meaning noble one. These dogs are probably the oldest known
breed.
But I'm better looking!

Did
you know that during her reproductive life, a single cat can deliver over 100
kittens!?!
Wow! people should make sure they get spayed!

Dogs
naturally have a wonderful sense of smell. They have many more sensory 'smelling' cells than a man's
5,000,000. A Dachshund has 125,000,000, a Fox Terrier 147,000,000 and an Alsation (often used as a
'sniffer' dog) has 220,000,000.
I wonder how many my sniffer has???

Have
you ever wondered why cats are so flexible? Well, cats have free-floating clavicle bones. These "flexible
bones" allow them to go through very tight spaces, as long as their heads can pass
through.
Wow! and here I thought they were
magical!
Did you know? coyotes are very good swimmers. The coyote appears often in the
tales and traditions of Native Americans-usually as a very savvy and clever beast. Coyotes are
formidable in the field where they enjoy keen vision and a strong sense of smell. They can run up
to 40 miles an hour. In the fall and winter, they form packs for more effective hunting.
Coyotes form strong family groups. In the spring, females den and give birth to litters of three to
twelve pups. Both parents feed and protect their young and their territory. They communicae
with a distinctive call, which at night often develops into a raucous canine
chorus.
Ooooooo! they give me the shivers when I hear them sing!
Did you know that over millions of years dogs have developed bigger brains than cats
because highly social species of mammals need more brain power than solitary animals, according to a
study by Oxford University.
Hahahaha I knew it!
Did you know that yeast dough - dough that is not cooked and contains yeast
can rise in your pet's stomach, causing pain, and can potentially cause the intestines to
rupture.
Oh! please don't let us eat that stuff!
Ya know thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten
this... hmmmmmmm

Did you know that a scorpion can have up to 12 eyes? I
wonder if they all blink at the same time??

Do you know what I heard? If a cat washes her face over her ear, 'tis a sign
the weather will be fine and clear! Who would have known??
A year is not just a year for a cat! The first year of a cat's life
equals
(in terms of development) the first 15 years of a human life.
After its second year, a cat is 25 in human years. After that, each year of
a cat's life is equal to about 7 human years.
Hmmmmm why are cats so complicated?
English school children believed seeing a
white cat on the way to school was sure to bring
trouble. To prevent the bad luck, they were to spit or turn around
completely and make the sign of the cross.
Ewwww spit??
Native American Animal Medicine
Animal medicine is the idea that, when we see animals, they are trying to tell
us something. This is different from the idea of animal totems, which are with an individual
throughout his or her life and represent something intrinsically meaningful to them. Tribes, families
and other groups also have totems. Lessons from animal medicine are immediate concepts that are
important to the person who sees the animal.
